Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers — including to the hard questions.

What it is

What does Total Circumstance AI actually do?

You paste in a report narrative you've written. It scores that narrative against the legal elements of probable cause for the incident type, flags gaps — missing times, undocumented observations, unarticulated justifications — and previews how a defense attorney is likely to attack the report, with specific guidance on how to strengthen it before you file.

Does it write reports for officers?

No. It never generates, rewrites, or embellishes a narrative. You write the report; it checks the report you wrote. You stay the author of every word — which is exactly how it should be, because your narrative is your testimony.

Doesn't this just help officers "fix" a weak story to fit probable cause?

It does the opposite. A narrative isn't the evidence — it gets checked against the evidence. Body cameras, dash cams, dispatch logs, and witness statements all exist independently, and a report "adjusted to fit the elements" now contradicts that record, which is exactly what gets a case dismissed and an officer impeached on the stand.

What the tool actually flags is the opposite problem: real observations that never made it onto paper — the time of the stop, what impairment actually looked like, why force was used. And when the facts genuinely don't establish probable cause, the score says so. That's a weak arrest getting caught before it's filed, not defended after. Higher scrutiny at the report stage protects the public as much as it protects the case.

What is the Defense Challenge Preview?

It plays devil's advocate. Each challenge is written in the defense attorney's voice — the argument opposing counsel is most likely to make about your report. Each one gets a risk rating (how likely that attack is to actually succeed as the report is written) and a counter: what to document, clarify, or reference so the argument dies before it starts. It's the cross-examination prep you never get until it's too late.

Trust & accuracy

Is this legal advice?

No. Total Circumstance AI is a reference and review tool. Analyses do not constitute legal advice, and statute information should always be independently verified. Officers and agencies should consult legal counsel and their department's policies regarding specific cases and charging decisions.

Which states does it work in?

All 50. The core analysis is grounded in federal constitutional standards — the Fourth Amendment framework, probable cause elements, and controlling Supreme Court case law — which apply nationwide. You select your state and incident type when running an analysis so the review is framed for your jurisdiction.

Who built this?

A working law enforcement officer — not a tech company guessing at what the job requires. It was built on a patrol officer's budget and priced accordingly, because the last thing anyone in this profession needs is another expensive subscription.

Your data

What happens to my narrative when I run an analysis?

Your narrative is processed securely to generate the analysis, and your case history is stored in your account so you can revisit past analyses — you can delete cases from your history at any time. Your narratives are never sold, shared with third parties for marketing, or made visible to other users.

As with any tool outside your agency's records system, follow your department's policies regarding report handling before pasting narratives that contain sensitive information.

Is Total Circumstance AI CJIS compliant?

Not currently. CJIS compliance is a formal certification process — dedicated government-cloud infrastructure, audit logging, background-checked personnel access, and a signed security addendum with your state's CJIS Systems Agency. It's a real target as this product grows, but it isn't accurate to claim it today, and we won't.

Here's the practical context: the narrative you paste in is a draft of a report that, once filed, is generally subject to public records law — this isn't restricted data like an NCIC query or active investigation file. That said, some report content (victim information, juveniles, confidential informants, ongoing investigations) may be redacted or exempt even after filing. Treat the narrative field the way you'd treat any tool outside your agency's RMS: don't paste identifying information — names, DOB, SSNs — beyond what's needed for the analysis to make sense.

Every account is scoped so you only ever see your own case history, and all traffic is encrypted in transit. Questions about a specific use case? Reach out at info@totalcircumstance.com.

Do I have to use my work email?

No — work or personal email, either works. Your account is yours, not your department's.

Why does my account require two-factor authentication?

Your case history contains your report narratives — that deserves more protection than a password alone, so two-factor authentication is required on every account. Signing in takes your password plus a 6-digit code from a free authenticator app on your phone (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy all work). Setup takes about a minute during account creation: scan the QR code with the app, enter the code it shows, done.

Lost or replaced your phone? Email info@totalcircumstance.com from your account email address — we'll verify your identity and reset two-factor so you can enroll your new device.
